LGBT Resource Center Scholarship

The LGBT Resource Center awards scholarships to students (undergraduate or graduate) every Spring semester with funding provided by our generous donors. These awards recognize outstanding students who are committed to supporting LGBTQIA+ communities. Amount of awards are typically $2,000-$3,500.  

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for our scholarships a student must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled University of Utah student (undergraduate or graduate) OR an incoming student who has completed at least one semester at another university or college.
  • Must have and maintain cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. 
  • Financial need will be considered in selection process. Awardees will be required to complete a FAFSA process to have scholarship awarded. Applicants with questions or concerns about this may contact our office. 
  • Awardees will be required to complete HB 144 affidavit to have scholarship awarded. Our scholarships are available to undocumented/DACA students who have graduated from a Utah high school as well as international students. Applicants with questions or concerns about this may contact our office. 
  • Past LGBT RC scholarship awardees are welcome to apply again. Priority will be given to first-time applicants.
     

Application Questions:

  1. What is your current educational plan (major, minor, future career, etc.) and what are you doing to ensure you are successful in this plan as a student?
  2. In what ways do you currently support LGBTQIA+ community? What efforts do you plan to begin or expand in the future? Please reference any involvement you are already doing in this regard, including activism, volunteering, academic work, art or cultural work, support of others, self-preservation, etc.
  3. What would receiving this scholarship mean to you? How would it help you achieve your goals? 
  4. Is there anything else you want the committee to consider when reviewing your application? (Optional question)

U Alumni Trans Futures Scholarship


We are proud to partner with U Alumni to offer the U Alumni Trans Futures Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate a commitment to advancing the interests of trans communities (including interests of people who identify as transgender, non-binary, two-spirit, and/or other non-cisgender identities). Preference will be given to students who provide nuanced understandings of the challenges faced by trans individuals and who can demonstrate a strong personal investment in supporting trans communities. Award amount is $4,000. 

Who can apply?

To be eligible for the U Alumni Trans Futures Scholarship, a student must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Utah OR an incoming undergraduate student who has completed at least one semester at another university or college.
  • Must articulate nuanced understandings of the challenges faced by trans individuals and demonstrate a strong personal investment in supporting trans communities in the present and the future.  
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.  
  • Preference given to students who are Juniors or Seniors and nearing the completion of their degree program.  
  • Financial need will be considered in selection process. Awardees will be required to complete a FAFSA process to have scholarship awarded. Applicants with questions or concerns about this may contact our office. 
  • Awardees will be required to complete HB 144 affidavit to have scholarship awarded. Our scholarships are available to undocumented/DACA students who have graduated from a Utah high school as well as international students. Applicants with questions or concerns about this may contact our office.

U Alumni Community Care Scholarship

We are proud to partner with U Alumni to offer the U Alumni Community Care Scholarship. This scholarship supports students who have experienced financial hardship after a life-altering event. Examples of such events may include but are not limited to: losing family and/or community support because of gender or sexual identity, a job loss, a medical emergency, birth of a child, a death in the family, and so on. This scholarship supports students who may be in the process of suddenly figuring out how they will support themselves after a life-altering event, or who may have experienced an event in the in the past and are continuing to be financially impacted. The goal of this scholarship is support students in persisting to graduation, and to benefit LGBTQIA+ communities thorough the ways that scholarship recipients plan to give back to these communities.  Award amount is $4,000.

  • Must explain how student has experienced financial hardship after a life-altering event.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ communities in the present and the future.  
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.  
  • Preference given to students who are Juniors or Seniors and nearing the completion of their degree program.

How to Apply for Our Scholarships

Applications will open January 1st, 2023. The deadline for all applications is February 28th 2023,11:59pm MST. You can complete the online application via the University of Utah online scholarship website, use the links above to access the applications. Students are encouraged to apply for all of scholarships for which they are eligible.
