The mentor program pairs students who are coming out and exploring an identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, with other individuals who are more knowledgeable and self-accepting of their LGBT identity. Mentoring helps people develop a positive LGBT identity by providing a supportive relationship, accurate information, and a safe person to talk with about coming out concerns. A mentor is an LGBT junior, senior, or graduate student who has experienced, first-hand, the challenges of coming out and finding self-acceptance. They are mature, show good judgment, are knowledgeable about community resources, and seek to make a contribution to the LGBT community by helping others.
